Equity Diversity & Inclusion Workshops for Arts Leaders
Arts, culture and creativity have the power to transform the region and to help advance a more competitive, economically stronger, more educated, and compassionate Greater Louisville. The Imagine Greater Louisville 2020 plan provides a shared vision for the role arts, culture and creativity can play in this stronger future. A critical priority of Imagine 2020 focuses on equity, diversity & inclusion and on promoting cultural equity among arts & culture organizations, artists and funders.
Objectives & Learning Outcomes
Imagine 2020 and the Fund for the Arts are pleased to offer a series of workshops to Greater Louisville arts and culture leaders that is designed to strengthen understanding around the foundations of diversity, equity and inclusion and to provide organizations and individuals with the necessary tools to adopt and implement organizational change.
During this series of workshops, participants will:
- Discuss how to build a culture of diversity and inclusion;
- Increase awareness about current issues and the use of appropriate language;
- Learn how to create a Diversity, Equity & Inclusion strategic plan;
- Learn to develop a plan for the recruitment and retention of underrepresented populations in hiring;
- Learn how to discuss diversity, equity and inclusion within your organization’s teams;
- Learn from local Diversity, Equity & Inclusion experts;
- Engage in D E & I activities that can be used within your organization.
- Receive DE & I training and technical assistance, as needed.
Workshop Dates & Times
There will be three half-day workshops designed for groups of people who will be committed to attending all three of the workshop sessions. Organizations are encouraged to have a staff and board leader attend the workshops together.
- Tuesday, March 19th 1-5 PM
- Tuesday, April 16th 1-5 PM
- Tuesday May 21st 1-5 PM
Between each session, participants will be given “homework” assignments to complete with their organization and board and prepare for the next workshop session. The workshop facilitator will be available between sessions to provide technical assistance as needed.
What is the Cost to Participate?
This workshop series is made possible by funding from the Jennifer Lawrence Arts Fund at the Fund for the Arts. There is no cost to participate.
Facilitator
Workshops will be facilitated by Dr. Matisa Wilbon. Dr. Wilbon’s areas of interest and scholarship include adolescent risk behavior, family systems, structural inequality, race/ethnicity and the impact of current culture on the church. She has a unique way of communicating her scholarship practically to transform families and communities. Dr. Wilbon earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology/Sociology from Centre College in Danville, KY where she would later be chosen as the Distinguished Young Alumnus. She received a Master’s degree in 2001 and a Ph.D. in Sociology from The Ohio State University in 2005. As an educator, Dr. Wilbon is a tenured Associate Professor of Sociology. She has been teaching for 11 years. Classes taught include crime and the media, juvenile delinquency, race and ethnicity and structural inequality.
